The compact Glock 48 Black is the latest generation 9×19 mm single-stack striker-fired polymer frame semi-automatic with a standard 10+1 capacity. It comes in three flavors: all matte-black, Glock 48 Silver Slide with a silver slide mated to the otherwise black gun and, finally, the Glock48 Black, featuring a slide pre-cut for red-dot sights, but does not include them. Of course, Glock offers them for sales separately or as part of a package with the Glock 48 Black.
The Glock 48 Black compares to other Glocks such as the double-stack 15+1 capacity Glock 19 or the double-stack 17+1 standard capacity Glock 45. Capacity aside, the Glock 48 Black is narrower and lighter and thus more portable.
The epicenter of all this is Glock’s narrow wonder, the Slimline frame. The slide is 6.85”. The width is only .87”! The Glock 48 Black is slightly wider across the grips, where it is still remarkably only 1.1” wide. Overall length is 7.28” and height, with the magazine that protrudes out a bit even when fully docked, is 5.04”.
The sight radii vary by type of sight. With the Glock Night Sights, it’s 5.91”. This radius increases a tad to 5.94” with steel sights and 5.98” with polymer ones. Another key metric is the 2.64” trigger distance back of the grip to the trigger face.
The Glock Marksman Barrel (GMB) barrel is 4.17” long. Its extra internal grooving improves accuracy compared to more plebian barrels.
Without the magazine, the gun weighs 18.5 ounces. The “Slim” magazine adds another 2.25 ounces, and, by the way, it has an excellent orange follower that makes seeing how many rounds are left very easy. Load it up with ten rounds and shove it into the flared mag well, and the weight is still a very portable 25.1 ounces.
Glock 48 Black has a conservative design. The slide is long enough for vertical grip serrations in front and back, but they are vertical rather than diagonal. The beavertail extends a bit past the end of the slide, and it is high up for improved felt-recoil mitigation and better general control. The grip has pyramid stippling all around, and there is a single-slot accessory rail under the recoil spring housing. The gun also has a tough corrosion-resistant nDLC finish over the slide and barrel.
The Glock 48 Black uses a Safe Action trigger system. It incorporates a trigger safety that blocks the trigger from moving back until the safety is pulled. There is also a firing pin bar safety, drop safety and visual and tactile loaded chamber indicator. Trigger pull is factory-set to 5.4 pounds.
The trigger guard has a vertical front face that curves forward a tad at the bottom. Within the guard, the perimeter is plenty of room for a gloved finger. The pistol grip has a short toe in front, and a gentle palm swell in the back and a pyramid stippling.
The Glock 48 has ambidextrous minimalist slide stop levers and squared magazine releases instead of the circular ones common to many other guns.
